Minimalism Photography Phase 1

1. Minimalism in photography is a style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity.
2. Ideally, the subject in the photo should be simple and not contain anything that would make the entire photo too complex.

The pale orange/yellow hue contrasts sharply with the dark brown shadows of the birds in the water. It is not too complex and it is relaxing to look at. The photo is also fogged over just enough to prevent the viewer from seeing any background aspects in the photo.
The light snow and the single trail of footsteps is pleasing because of the fact that those are the two major aspects of the photo and not much else is in it (besides the tree). It also makes you think about who or what might have made those footprints in the snow.
The dark bench that is covered in the snow is so simple but it makes you feel almost alone. It could either be a bad feeling or a good one, and the pile of snow on top of the bench tells you that nobody has touched the seat in a long time.

Gottfried Helnwein Response

In the photo, there is a man rock climbing down a woman's zoomed in face with a long cable. He is climbing right next to her eyebrows. The scale between the man and the woman's face is very large. I believe that the man is scaling/fixing a billboard. I believe this because the woman's face doesn't look like it has enough depth compared to the climber. Because he is on a long cable and the woman's face doesn't have a lot of depth, it makes it appear as a person is simply climbing a blown up photo of a woman. I think it is both a "documentary" and an abstract image. The quality of the photo shows a more creative and abstract visual. For some parts of the picture, i think it was photoshopped to make the woman's face less "airbrushed". The meaning behind this photo, in my opinion, is 'perspective' and how you actually view the world in your own eyes. The intent was to fool the person's eye/mind and make them believe they are see...
