1st Semester Reflection

PART ONE:
QUALITY OF WORK

During the first semester, the quality of my work was an uneven mix of a lot of things. Some final products were decent, while others could have been better. I could have chosen better subjects in some projects. I'd like to think that I paid enough attention to the objectives for each project.Almost every project was turned in on time, except for a few ones that were uploaded only a day or two late. The index prints always had enough pictures (24 to be exact). Something I could have worked on was going beyond my first ideas. Some of my ideas lacked creativity but i still stuck with them because i didn't think id be able to think of anything else.

EFFORT

During the first semester, i wasn't always giving off my best effort. I was not always actively taking pictures, and I didn't plan for my projects for very long. I avoided a lot of photographic ideas that I thought would be difficult because i did not think i would be able to create them to the best of my ability. I took some risks, but not enough in my opinion. Although I had a positive attitude when it came to other student's work, I had a negative attitude towards my own photography, processes, and images.

PARTICIPATION

I was almost always on time, except for a few excused tardies every once in a while. I did work all throughout the class, but there could have been times where i could have been more focused with my work. I didn't like to work independently, but there were times where i really focused on my work and my work only. I hate to admit it, but i wasn't on task all throughout every class. There could have been times where i could have worked on my photography ideas rather than talking to my friends and/or looking through my phone in the mornings.

IMPROVEMENT

I feel like i created my own style as i worked through every project. I believe that i did improve technically and i learned a lot through using photoshop. Towards the end of the first semester, I felt more confident about my work and started to create more compelling images. My concepts also grew stronger as time passed.

ADJUSTMENT

For the second semester, i am going to try and work more independently and stay on task more often. I also want to put more effort into my projects. I want to take bigger risks and explore new ideas that i will have.

PART TWO:

SUGGESTIONS

I suggest that we try to incorporate words and interesting phrases into the projects. I also suggest that we could create a panel that tells a story through a few different pictures.

Gottfried Helnwein Response

In the photo, there is a man rock climbing down a woman's zoomed in face with a long cable. He is climbing right next to her eyebrows. The scale between the man and the woman's face is very large. I believe that the man is scaling/fixing a billboard. I believe this because the woman's face doesn't look like it has enough depth compared to the climber. Because he is on a long cable and the woman's face doesn't have a lot of depth, it makes it appear as a person is simply climbing a blown up photo of a woman. I think it is both a "documentary" and an abstract image. The quality of the photo shows a more creative and abstract visual. For some parts of the picture, i think it was photoshopped to make the woman's face less "airbrushed". The meaning behind this photo, in my opinion, is 'perspective' and how you actually view the world in your own eyes. The intent was to fool the person's eye/mind and make them believe they are see...
